1-OCT (D-Day)

Chapter 1 The Fetching

Our wedding day started at 3.30am for the bride, Yan Yin, to start her make up while the groom, Michaelpone, was still fast asleep after being knocked out by melatonin the night before.

The clock has yet to strike 5am, which was the alarm that groom has set, but his body clock and anxiousness woke him up at 4am. So he started getting ready.

He texted the bride to check if everything is in order, prepared the 12 oranges to bring over and ran through his checklist on things to bring including his 2nd set of suit and the bridal bouquet they had made together.

His groomsman, Happy, reached at 6am and drove the groom to Yan Yin’s place. Upon reaching, the videographer took some footage of them. Happy and Pone waited inside the car while Yan Yin finished up with her veil shots upstairs.

However, since the groom had already prepared something in advance in case there was a trial, he gave an Indonesian ‘under the table’ bribe to the bridesmaids with handwritten cards with a message ‘Please let me in and here is an angpao for you’.

It is now time for the groom to read his 10 promises for the bride, some of which include travelling the world together, protecting her from harm and always telling the bride how ardently he admires and loves her.

He then proceeded to open her bedroom door, and saw his beautiful bride in her veil and wedding dress. Then, he lifted her veil and kissed her.

Chapter 2 The Promise

The bride was now ready and the groom proceeded upstairs. Luckily, there was no gate crash and since they were behind time, the bridesmaids were kind enough to let him in without any trials.

Chapter 3 The Mee Sua & First Impression

The couple now enjoyed the food prepared by Yan Yin’s mom - delicious Mee Sua as a sign of longevity, and Tang Yuan to welcome the bride and groom to the family. After that, they left the house, with Yan Yin’s dad sheltering Yan Yin with a red umbrella to the car. As the bridal car drove off, Yan Yin dropped a fan out of the car window to symbolise how all the negative parts of her past will be left behind and to move on with a fresh start.

The couple proceeded to a promenade nearby for a brief photo taking session, and the videographer filmed them as they read out their first impressions of each other. A few shots were also taken with the bridesmaid and groomsman accompanying them to make the session even more meaningful. Beautiful snippets and first impressions were shared, and the bride and groom then proceeded to the wedding venue at 1-Atico.

Chapter 4 The Tea Ceremony

The couple reached 1-Atico, and the groom started getting his make-up done while the bride had a mini photoshoot.

During the tea ceremony, tea was offered by the couple to their family members, forming new family bonds through the exchange of tea and angpaos.

Chapter 5 The Vows

With the tea ceremony done, it is time for the all important vows. Before the celebrant, Tatt Si, took center stage, a video showcasing how the couple forged the wedding bands for each another was shown.

The celebrant kickstarted the ceremony by introducing how the couple met as lab partners, coming from a biology background, and it was no surprise that one of the activities they planned for guests was for them to write their marriage advice for the couple in a seed paper. The seed paper will then be planted to make those marriage advice a reality. This would also help the couple get their much required basil leaves to cook one of their favourite dishes, Thai style Basil Pork rice.

With the seed paper activity done, the rings that the couple had forged for one another were passed around for ring warming, where guests held the rings to bestow their blessings and well wishes upon the rings. Tatt Si then proceeded to introduce the bride’s surprise to the groom - she had prepared a DIY emergency box of letters to open during various occasions, such as their first wedding anniversary, when the groom feels down or when he is in need of money. 6 letters in total were crafted with love by the bride.

After that, it was time for their vows. The bride started reading her vows, followed by the groom. Then, they said ‘I do’ to one another, and exchanged the rings that they had made for each other. The couple was now married.

Chapter 6 The First Dance

The remaining guests started arriving, and they mingled with each other while enjoying the canapes that were being served. It was finally time for the first march in, but before that, a short film showcasing the couple’s proposal day was shown.

While the video was playing, the couple did a mini workout backstage so they could look their best during the march in. Once the video ended, they walked in to the song ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love with You’. Then, they proceeded to cut their wedding cake.

After that, it was time for their First Dance. Their loved ones surrounded them to watch the performance.

Chapter 7 The Finale

As the guests enjoyed their meal, a video of the couple’s pre-honeymoon was shown to the guests, highlighting snippets of the couple’s love for travel.

The guests then played a fun Kahoot game designed to test everyone’s knowledge of the couple. Lots of excitement and laughter were triggered by the first question ‘How did the couple meet’, because one of the options presented was ‘Through arranged marriage’.

After the game, the couple had their second march in, along with the champagne popping and the Yam Seng toast. The 3rd toast was particularly long, as it represented everyone’s wish for the couple to 早生貴子, which means ‘May you have children soon’.

Both the bride and groom gave their speeches to thank their family, new family, colleagues, and friends who attended the wedding. Towards the end of his speech, the groom unveiled a surprise dance performance for the bride. He danced alongside people whom he had shared the stage with throughout his life, along with the bride’s maid of honor.
